On the Day of Midwinter (2011) - a tribute to Dr. Seuss

Dozing deep in the burrow the groundhog did sleep

Relaxing in slumber not making a peep

Yet the day is upon us; the people await

Expecting a forecast, a telling that's great

Today the wise groundhog pops up to the light

Announcing good tidings of days warm and bright

The winter’s deep snow must give way to the spring

And birds will return with the sweet songs they sing

The years may turn faster and time seems to fly

Despite all predictions of days wet and dry

The weather may challenge, the cold winds may blow

Still our dear furry groundhog brings hope from below

On the day of midwinter come rain or come sun

The groundhog delights us with good cheer and fun!
