Punxsutawney Groundhog (2020) - to the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon"

Punxsutawney Groundhog, what do you see?

Your people wait to hear their fate.

Is it spring for you and me?

Quietly you’ve slumbered beneath the hollow tree.

The first birds sing, the church bells ring,

We call on bended knee. Oh!

(Chorus – two times)

Punxsutawney Groundhog, what do you see?

Your people wait to hear their fate.

Is it spring for you and me?

We’ve dreamt of leaf and flower, and wished for days of sun.

We’ve longed for grassy meadows and space to play and run.

But weather is a trickster and changes on a dime,

And snow and sleet or freezing rain could happen anytime. Oh!

(Chorus – two times)

Punxsutawney Groundhog, what do you see?

Your people wait to hear their fate.

Is it spring for you and me?

Your friends have gathered ‘round you to hear your word with joy.

From far and near they all are here, each with a groundhog toy.

Oh, Phil, let’s take a selfie to commemorate this day.

It’s time for spring and frolicking, so, friend, let’s find a way.

A palindrome is marking our time this day of days.

The date and year now give a cheer in their own special ways.

February second becomes oh-two-oh-two,

While in reverse, the year (last-first) is rendered two-oh-two-Oh!

(Chorus – two times)

Punxsutawney Groundhog, what do you see?

It’s not too late to celebrate.

We’ve brought cakes and tea!
